QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN CHOOSING A PEDIATRICIAN

  • How quickly can I get an appointment if my child needs to be seen? Does your office allow same-day appointments?

  • How do I schedule appointments? By phone, email, and/or online? Do you offer telehealth visits?

  • How do you handle calls and questions outside of office hours – early mornings, at night, or on weekends?

  • Which hospitals are you affiliated with?

  • Do you use MyChart or another app where I can access my child’s health records?

  • How long should it take for your office to return my call or message if I have a medical question?

  • Can your office connect me to helpful resources if needed?

  • Do you have any sub-specialties or additional certifications? What does it mean, and how does it affect the care you provide?

  • What types of referrals to specialists can you provide?

  • What is your walk-in policy?

  • If it is a group practice: will my baby be seen by the same or different providers each time?

  • Does your waiting room separate the kids if they are sick vs well?

  • What are your thoughts on: Immunizations? Breastfeeding vs bottle feeding vs formula? Circumcision? Antibiotics? Co-sleeping? “Alternative”/holistic medicine?
